Club Atlético River Plate is a Uruguayan football club based in Montevideo. The club currently plays in the Primera División , the top level of the Uruguayan football league system. [ 2 ] This is not the same River Plate F.C. that won the Uruguayan league in the early 20th century.
The first edition of Liga Nacional was played within 1985, with 16 teams participating although Independiente de Tucumán abandoned the championship for economic reasons. The first game was played on April 26, 1985, [ 6 ] when San Lorenzo de Almagro faced Argentino de Firmat at Estadio Obras Sanitarias .

The finals were contested in two-legged home-and-away format between Mexican team UANL and Argentine team River Plate. The first leg was hosted by UANL at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza on 29 July 2015, while the second leg was hosted by River Plate at Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti in Buenos Aires on 5 August 2015. Alajuelense (winners of the 1986 CONCACAF Champions' Cup) [1] and was staged over two legs on 21 July 1987 and 16 August 1987. River Plate won their first Copa Interamericana.
