Avon Inn is an historic inn located in Avon, USA, in Livingston County, New York. The main block was built in the 1840s as a residence in the Greek Revival style. The five bay structure features a two-story portico supported by massive Ionic columns. In 1882, the building was expanded and remodeled for use as a sanitarium.
The community was founded around 1840. Public transportation, in the form of railroads and ferries, made the village a desirable resort community since the 19th century. The Wilbur Cahoon House is one of the oldest homes in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. [2] The house is 80 feet (24 m) long with 12 rooms, situated overlooking French Creek. Wilbur Cahoon arrived in Avon in 1814 from Herkimer County, New York with his wife, Priscilla and family; [ 2 ] he was Avon's first settler and an early industrialist. [ 3 ]
Riley's Lake House. Riley's was located on the south shore of Lake Lonely. It was originally opened in 1886 by James H. Riley, noted as a champion rower. In 1923 it was sold to Matthew J. "Matty" Dunn, a noted New York nightclub owner. In 1925 a raid found that Riley's had "nearly 100 tables, a large orchestra and thirty negro waiters."
