Purcell was born in or near to Norwich on 22 January 1912. [1] Purcell was educated at Norwich School and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and ordained in 1938. [ 2 ] After a curacy in Headingley , Yorkshire he was raised to the position of a Minor Canon of Ripon Cathedral in that county.
A full-length album entitled Our Winter Love was released the following year. [4] The album reached #15 on the Billboard 200 [5] on the strength of the popularity of the title track. The arrangements for the album were made by Bill Justis and Pursell, and the orchestra was conducted by Grady Martin.
