Hurtigruten AS is a Norwegian coastal ferry service and cruise line headquartered in Oslo, Norway. [1] It is the larger of two companies currently operating Hurtigruten , the coastal ferry service along the Norwegian coast from which it takes its name.
Hurtigruten (lit. ' Express Route ' ), formally Kystruten Bergen-Kirkenes ("coastal route Bergen - Kirkenes "), [ 1 ] is a Norwegian public coastal route transporting passengers that travel locally, regionally and between the ports of call, and also cargo between ports north of Tromsø .
The company operates in Nordland, Oslo, Troms, Finnmark and Østfold. The company was founded in 1919, and the largest owners are Hurtigruten Group (71.3%) and six municipalities (14.2%). The corporation owns three major Northern Norwegian bus companies, Tromsbuss, Ofotens Bilruter and the operating subsidiary TIRB Rutene AS.
The company dates back to 1866 and has had a number of activities within shipping. It was listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange until 2006 when it merged with Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab to create Hurtigruten Group. At the time of the merger the group had 38 ships, 123 buses and 86 trucks.
