Kung Fu Hustle (Chinese: 功夫; lit. 'Kung Fu') is a 2004 martial arts action comedy film directed, produced and co-written by Stephen Chow , who also stars in the leading role, alongside Huang Shengyi , Yuen Wah , Yuen Qiu , Danny Chan Kwok-kwan and Leung Siu-lung in prominent roles.
The scenes in the Buddhist monastery reference 18 Bronzemen, as the monks call themselves the "18 Brassmen". "Sorrowful Rice" (黯然銷魂飯) is a reference to Yang Guo's Melancholic Palms (黯然銷魂掌) technique.
In 2004, his film Kung Fu Hustle grossed over US$106 million worldwide. Chow also won Best Director at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards and Best Picture of Imagine Film Festival as well as over twenty international awards.
