An overhead camshaft (OHC) engine is a piston engine in which the camshaft is located in the cylinder head above the combustion chamber. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] This contrasts with earlier overhead valve engines (OHV), where the camshaft is located below the combustion chamber in the engine block .
The LD9 Twin Cam was a 2.4-liter Quad 4 variant which debuted in 1996 with balance shafts and a redesigned cylinder head. In the mid-1990s, these engines, like their earlier 2.3-liter counterparts, were known for timing chain failures, as well as water pump failures, in which the water pumps were often difficult and costly to access and replace.

The Northstar engine is a family of high-performance 90° V engines produced by General Motors between 1993 and 2011. Regarded as GM's most technically complex engine, the original double overhead cam, four valve per cylinder, aluminum block/aluminum head V8 design was developed by Oldsmobile R&D, [citation needed] but is most associated with Cadillac's Northstar series.

Can we get an accurate definition of "Unicam" please. The idea of a single camshaft working both inlet and exhaust valves is inherent in SOHC. It's the use of a single cam lobe that matters. Sharing a cam between inlet and exhaust is almost as old as SOHC. Not for mass-volume production cars, but for a number of engines, both car and aircraft.
A desmodromic valve is a reciprocating engine poppet valve that is positively closed by a cam and leverage system, rather than by a more conventional spring. The valves in a typical four-stroke engine allow the air/fuel mixture into the cylinder at the beginning of the cycle and exhaust spent gases at the end of the cycle.
