AMD Software (formerly known as Radeon Software) is a device driver and utility software package for AMD's Radeon graphics cards and APUs. Its graphical user interface is built with Qt [ 6 ] and is compatible with 64-bit Windows and Linux distributions .
This driver, labelled Radeon Software Crimson Edition, overhauls the UI with Qt, resulting in better responsiveness from a design and system perspective. It includes a new interface featuring a game manager, clocking tools, and sections for different technologies. [52] Unofficial modifications such as Omega drivers and DNA drivers were available.
Nicolas Thibieroz, AMD's Senior Manager of Worldwide Gaming Engineering, argues that "it can be difficult for developers to leverage their R&D investment on both consoles and PC because of the disparity between the two platforms" and that "proprietary libraries or tools chains with "black box" APIs prevent developers from accessing the code for maintenance, porting or optimizations purposes". [7]

ROCm software is currently spread across several public GitHub repositories. Within the main public meta-repository , there is an XML manifest for each official release: using git-repo , a version control tool built on top of Git , is the recommended way to synchronize with the stack locally.
Most free and open-source graphics device drivers are developed by the Mesa project. The driver is made up of a compiler, a rendering API, and software which manages access to the graphics hardware. Drivers without freely (and legally) -available source code are commonly known as binary drivers.
The Radeon 400 series is a series of graphics processors developed by AMD. These cards were the first to feature the Polaris GPUs , using the new 14 nm [ 8 ] FinFET manufacturing process, developed by Samsung Electronics and licensed to GlobalFoundries .

GPUs of the Arctic Islands-family were introduced in Q2 of 2016 with the AMD Radeon 400 series. The 3D-engine (i.e. GCA (Graphics and Compute array) or GFX) is identical to that found in the Tonga-chips. [38]
