Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD Board) is a public agency formed by the Government of Tamil Nadu, under the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, assigned with the task of implementing all water supply and sewerage schemes to the state of Tamil Nadu (except the Chennai Metropolitan Area).

Chennai Corporation, which was established on 29 September 1688, is the oldest corporation in India and is the second oldest in the world after London. [2] Madurai Municipal Corporation was established in 1971 and Coimbatore Municipal Corporation in 1981. Three more were established in 1994 and the count remained at six till 2007.
TASMAC is wholly owned by the government of Tamil Nadu, coming under the purview of the Ministry of Prohibition and Excise. Its headquarters is situated at the CMDA towers in Egmore, Chennai. It is governed by a board whose members belong to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
