The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMIFET) was established in 1985 in Delhi, India to provide engineering education. It was founded as a State University [3] by an act of the Delhi Government (The IIIT Delhi Act, 2007) [4] in 2008, with seed support from the Government of NCT of Delhi. [5] The institute began with its first batch of 60 students on 8 September 2008 from NSUT (NSIT at that time). IIIT-Delhi moved to its current permanent campus in August 2012.
In March 2018, IIT Delhi formally inaugurated a new Department of Design to bolster Research and Education on Design. The 25-year-old design course was earlier functioning under the ambit of IDDC (Instrument Design and Development Centre).
