The P65 is a purpose-built naturally aspirated DOHC V8 engine, designed, developed and produced by BMW, for sports car racing, between 2009 and 2016. It is based on the BMW S65 engine, used in the BMW M3 (E92) road car. [3] [4] [5]
The M3 model of the E90/E92/E93 3 Series range was powered by the BMW S65 V8 engine and was produced in saloon, convertible and coupé body styles. The E9x is the first and only standard production M3 powered by a V8 engine as its successor would revert to using a straight 6 engine.
The E90/E92/E93 M3 is the only generation of M3 to be powered by a V8 engine. Introduced in 2007, [11] it uses the BMW S65 naturally aspirated V8 engine and was produced in saloon, coupé and convertible body styles. [12] Following the introduction of the F30/F31 3 Series in February 2012, the E90/E91 saloons and estates were phased out.
The BMW S65 is a naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine which was produced from 2007 to 2013. Its main use was in the BMW M3 (where it replaced the BMW S54 straight-six engine). The P60B40 was the powertrain for the BMW E46 M3 GTR from 2001 to 2005. The BMW M3 GTR competed in the GT Class of the American Le Mans Series in 2001. There was opposition to the car being allowed to race, rivals stated that the car was a prototype as a road going version was not available to buy.
The Alpina B3 (E90) and Alpina D3 (E90) are a series of high performance compact executive cars manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Alpina from 2007 to 2013.
