Xiaolongbao originated in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, where is created by Wan Hua Tea House during the years of Daoguang Emperor (1820 to 1850). It evolved from the guantangbao (soup-filled dumplings/buns) of Kaifeng, in Henan province, which was the capital city of Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960–1127). [5]
The dumplings soon became extremely popular and they changed the name to just Din Tai Fung and started to focus on the dumplings and noodles. [6] [9] The original restaurant was in Taipei's Yongkang shopping district and was named one of the best restaurants in the world by the New York Times in 1993. [10]
