State Route 487 was a state route that never materialized in the north-central part of Arizona. The Arizona Department of Transportation added it the state highway system in 1967 between Flagstaff and State Route 87 near Happy Jack. It did show on state maps during the early 1970s, but the route disappeared in the mid to late '70s.
State Route 65 (SR 65) was a 139.06-mile (224-kilometre) long state highway between State Route 87 (SR 87) at Strawberry Junction and SR 264 in Second Mesa, located in northern Arizona. [ 1 ] [ 15 ] [ 16 ] The route was designated on May 19, 1936, going between US 66 in Winslow and the Coconino National Forest boundary. [ 2 ]
U.S. Highway 87 (US 87) is a north–south United States highway (though it is signed east–west in New Mexico) that runs for 1,998 miles (3,215 km) from northern Montana to southern Texas, making it the longest north-south road to not have a "1" in its number and the third longest north-south road in the country, behind U.S. 41 and U.S. 1.
The route was not part of the state highway system at this time. [3] By 1951, this road became part of SR 387. By 1961, the route had become part of SR 93, a proposed extension of US 93. [4] The route was redesignated to SR 587 on December 17, 1984 when SR 93 was removed from the state highway system. [5]
