Stephen Moylan (1737 – April 11, 1811) was an Irish-American patriot leader during the American Revolutionary War.He had several positions in the Continental Army, including Muster-Master General, Secretary and Aide to General George Washington, 2nd Quartermaster General, Commander of the Fourth Continental Light Dragoons, and Commander of the Cavalry of the Continental Army.
The Continental Corps of Light Dragoons was created in 1777 as an element of the third establishment of the Continental Army, raised for the duration of the war as reconnaissance and scouting troops. It consisted of four regiments, each authorized to raise six troops and 280 men.

On 27 September 1778, the British wiped out the 3rd Continental Light Dragoons in the Baylor Massacre. [3] On the American side, Anthony Wayne carried out a brilliant coup in the Battle of Stony Point on 16 July 1779.
