Schiermonnikoog (Dutch: [ˌsxiːrmɔnəkˈoːx] ⓘ; West Frisian: Skiermûntseach [ˌskiəmuːnˈtsɪəχ] ⓘ) is an island, a municipality and national park in the Northern Netherlands. Schiermonnikoog is one of the West Frisian Islands, and is part of the province of Friesland. It is situated between the islands of Ameland and Rottumerplaat.
The first two national parks were founded in the 1930s by private organisations. The first official national park, Schiermonnikoog National Park, was not established until 1989. The most recent national park to have been established is the Nieuw Land National Park, which was established in 2018.
Lauwersmeer National Park consists of the southern and eastern parts of the Lauwersmeer in the Netherlands; Schiermonnikoog National Park covers the majority of the island Schiermonnikoog; Dunes of Texel National Park is located on the Dutch island of Texel and includes dune systems.
The Frisian Islands are nowadays mostly famous as a holiday destination. Island hopping is possible by regular ferries from the mainland and by specialised tour operators. Cycling is the most favourable means of transport on most of the islands. On Vlieland and Schiermonnikoog cars are allowed only for regular inhabitants.

Klozum (or Klozem) is a holiday feast celebrated every 5 December on the Dutch island of Schiermonnikoog. The name literally means "Uncle Claus" (as in Saint Nicholas ). Despite the name and date, the tradition is not directly related to Sinterklaas , which is also celebrated on 5 December in the Netherlands.
