The expansion started in 1969 was completed by 1976 with the establishment of their 80th store. At this time Jack Fraser stores were found in every province. 1977 saw the next merger for Grafton-Fraser when they purchased George Richards Kingsize Clothes Limited, Canada's largest chain of specialty apparel for big and tall men.
Until 1995, Designs, Inc operated exclusively in Levi Strauss & Co. branded apparel mall and outlet stores. In May 2002, Designs, Inc. acquired the Casual Male Big & Tall chain of stores at a bankruptcy auction. At the time, Casual Male was the largest specialty retailer of men's clothing in the U.S. big and tall market.

Principally a men's clothier, by the mid-1950s some stores also carried women's clothing and later became known as "family apparel centers." In 1956, the chain operated nearly 100 outlets from coast to coast in principal cities, in addition to more than 50 agency stores that sold goods in smaller communities. [6]
