Isabela Island (Spanish: Isla Isabela) is the largest of the Galápagos Islands, with an area of 4,586 km 2 (1,771 sq mi) and a length of 100 km (62 mi). By itself, it is larger than all the other islands in the chain combined, and it has a little under 2,000 permanent inhabitants. The island straddles the equator.
The islands are found at the coordinates 1°40'N–1°36'S, 89°16'–92°01'W. Straddling the equator, islands in the chain are located in both the northern and southern hemispheres, with Volcán Wolf and Volcán Ecuador on Isla Isabela being directly on the equator.

Volcán Ecuador is the only volcano on Isabela Island not known to have erupted in historical times. However, the geomorphology of its youngest lava flows is comparable to those of very recent lava flows from other volcanoes on Isabela Island. Like Volcán Wolf to the east, Volcán Ecuador straddles the equator. [1]
