Medford is a township in Burlington County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 24,497, [8] [9] an increase of 1,464 (+6.4%) from the 2010 census count of 23,033, [18] [19] which in turn reflected an increase of 780 (+3.5%) from the 22,253 counted in the 2000 census. Indian Mills, formerly known as Brotherton, is an unincorporated community located within Shamong Township in Burlington County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. [2] It was the site of Brotherton Indian Reservation, the only Indian reservation in New Jersey and the first in America, founded for the Lenni Lenape tribe, some of whom were native to New Jersey's Washington Valley.
In 2016, the portion of the airport within Medford Township was proposed to be converted to a 450-unit housing complex by 2025. The deal would not affect the restaurant and motel complex within Lumberton Township. [2] The 28-room motel closed in October 2019. The café and bar closed indefinitely in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Flour production stopped in the 1920s. The gristmill was converted to electrical operation in 1961. Livestock feed was produced until 1969. [2]Kirby's Mill was relatively unaffected by a disastrous storm that struck upstream from the site in Medford, Medford Lakes, and Shamong Township on July 14, 2004.
The Ramapo Valley County Reservation, also known as the Ramapo Reservation, is a 4,000 acres (16 km 2) county park located in Mahwah, New Jersey in Bergen County, bordering Ringwood State Park to the north and the Ramapo Mountain State Forest to the south. The park lies on the border of the Piedmont and Highlands geologic provinces.
