Cynodon nlemfuensis, the African Bermuda-grass, is a species of grass, genus Cynodon, family Poaceae. [2] [3] It is native to Tropical Africa except West Africa, and widely introduced as a forage elsewhere; Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, the Galápagos, South America, western and southern Africa, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Australia. [1]
Cynodon dactylon, commonly known as Bermuda grass, also known as couch grass in Australia and New Zealand, is a grass found worldwide. It is native to Europe , Africa , Australia and much of Asia .
Propagation is by rhizomes, stolons, or seeds. In some cases it is considered to be a weed; it spreads through lawns and flower beds, where it can be difficult to kill with herbicides without damaging other grasses or plants. It is difficult to pull out because the rhizomes and stolons break readily, and then re-grow.
Tifton 85 is a hybrid strain of Bermudagrass Cynodon dactylon, a forage perennial grass that originated in Africa and was brought to the United States as a pasture and hay crop for the humid Southern states.
Sisyrinchium bermudiana, known as Bermudiana [citation needed] or, along with other members of the genus, as blue-eyed grass, [2] is a flower of the genus Sisyrinchium (of the iris family) that is native to the Atlantic archipelago, and British Overseas Territory, of Bermuda and the island of Ireland. The plant appears and blooms in the spring.
Anthephora pubescens, with the common names bottle brush grass and wool grass, is a drought tolerant bunchgrass native to tropical and southern Africa. [ 1 ] Common names in other languages include: Afrikaans : Borseltjiegras , Khoekhoe : uruǀgâab , Otjiherero : otjimbele , German : Ästiges Kruggras .
Paspalum conjugatum, commonly known as carabao grass or hilo grass, is a tropical to subtropical perennial grass. It is originally from the American tropics, but has been naturalized widely in tropical Southeast Asia and Pacific Islands. It has also spread to Northern Africa and Northern and Eastern Australia.
Only recently has commercially valuable and viable seed for St. Augustine become available, so it has typically been propagated by plugs, sprigs, or sod. Once the grass is cultivated, it can propagate on its own. St. Augustine can grow in a wide range of soil types with a pH between 5.0 and 8.5. It usually blooms in spring and summer.
