A Corydon character is used in the fourth Idyll of the Syracusan poet Theocritus(c. 300 – c. 250 BC). The second of Virgil's Eclogues has a goatherd character named Corydon who is in love with another man, Alexis. In Calpurnius Siculus' Ecologues, there is a Corydon character who may be an author surrogate for Siculus.
