The 25 de Abril Bridge (Portuguese: Ponte 25 de Abril, 25th of April Bridge, Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈpõtɨ ˈvĩtɨ (i) ˈsĩku dɨ ɐˈbɾil]) is a suspension bridge connecting the city of Lisbon, capital of Portugal, to the municipality of Almada on the left (south) bank of the Tagus River.
Fertagus crosses the river over the Ponte 25 de Abril. Fertagus is owned by the Portuguese transportation company, Grupo Barraqueiro. The company's name derives from caminhos-de-ferro, meaning railway, and the Latin form of the river Tagus (which coincides with the English name). Fertagus is the first private rail operator in Portugal.

The route to Funcheira opened on 25 May 1920. [2] In 2003 it was linked to Lisbon, crossing the Tagus River on the 25 de Abril Bridge. [3] The section between Pinhal Novo and Funcheira was classified as Linha do Sado until 1992, while the section from Barreiro to Vila Real de Santo António via Vendas Novas and Beja was classified as Linha do Sul.
The Linha do Sul, at 274 km was the principal main line in the south of the country, but it terminated short of Lisbon on the south side of the river Tagus (Tejo in Portuguese) but it received a considerable improvement when it was extended from Pinhal Novo to Lisbon over the Ponte 25 de Abril, which was provided with an additional railway deck.
