Nocatee / ˈ n ɒ k ə t iː / is an unincorporated planned community and census-designated place (CDP) located primarily in northern St. Johns County, Florida. [1] The population was 22,503 at the 2020 census, [2] up from 4,524 at the 2010 census, [3] an increase of nearly 400%.
This is the second-highest number of islands of any state of the United States; only Alaska has more. [1] Major island chains include the Florida Keys, the Ten Thousand Islands, the Sea Islands, and the barrier islands of the Atlantic coast, the Panhandle Gulf of Mexico coast, and the Tampa Bay Area and Southwest Florida Gulf coast.
After the Civil War this area was the site of vacation and retirement homes for several wealthy Jacksonville residents. Some of their former homes remain in the area. Today St. Nicholas is a chiefly residential neighborhood with some commercial zoning along Beach and Atlantic Boulevards. [24]
The Jacksonville Beaches, or Jax Beaches known locally as "The Beaches", are a group of towns and communities on the northern half of San Pablo Island [1] on the US state of Florida's First Coast. These communities are separated from the main body of the city of Jacksonville by the Intracoastal Waterway .
