The AC6000CW is a 6,000-horsepower (4,500 kW) diesel electric locomotive built between 1995 and 2001 by GE Transportation. It is among the world's most powerful single-engined diesel locomotives. The locomotive was designed for extremely high horsepower needs, such as pulling heavy coal and ore trains.
The impact was reportedly made at 302 mph. The drag-racing legend was alert and examined at Virginia Motorsports Park before being transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.
January 4 – Pakistan – Sukkur rail disaster: A Multan–Karachi Bahauddin Zakaria Express collided head-on with an empty freight train at Sangi station, Sukkur, Sindh.The train was to pass through Sangi, but incorrectly set rail points directed the train to a siding where the freight train was parked. 307 people were killed and another 700 more injured in Pakistan's worst rail disaster.

Class V 65/Class 265 engines were delivered to the DB shortly after the arrival in service of the first V 60s. Amongst their special features were the MaK motor with only 750 rpm and the Beugniot lever between the individual axles, that improved curve running. For train heating the engine had a boiler that was heated by the engine's exhaust gases.
