Tioga County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 41,045. [1] Its county seat is Wellsboro. [2] The county was created on March 26, 1804, from part of Lycoming County [3] and later organized in 1812. [4] It is named for the Tioga River.
The name "Tioga" is borrowed from Native American tribes who lived in the area at the time of the arrival of European colonists; it means "at the forks". The various Iroquois tribes all had similar words for the concept: the Oneida called it Te-ah-o-ge, the Mohawk called it Te-yo-ge-ga, the Cayuga called it Da-o-ga and the Seneca called it Da-yo-o-geh.

The Tioga Inn in Chanute, Kansas was built in 1929. Over the years it has also been known as The Tioga Hotel, The Tioga, and The Jones' Building.
