KRQV (92.9 FM, "92.9 The River") is a commercial radio station in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. It is owned by Griffin Communications and airs a classic hits radio format . Its studios are located in Downtown Tulsa and the transmitter is in the Osage Reservation north of Sand Springs, Oklahoma , broadcasting at 100,000 watts .
The station experimented with a 92-minute commercial-free block of music weekdays at 8:30 a.m.; this was in response to KYMX's "96 minutes of music", but neither station's effort lasted more than a few months. The "Y-92.5 KGBY, Sacramento" station ID was replaced with a simpler version.
CISS was acquired by Rogers Communications on February 26, 1999, and was rebranded first as Power 92, then Kiss 92.5 as a Top 40 station, but the station was renamed to 92.5 Jack FM on June 4, 2003, with the call letters CJAQ-FM under a jockless adult hits format before abandoning the concept in 2006, and played classic rock music. 92.5 went on the air in the Toledo area as WMHE on October 14, 1957. The station was founded by William A. Hillebrand (1917–2005). Though FM broadcasting was still in its infancy at the time, Hillebrand saw FM radio, with its superior sound quality for musical recordings, as an investment that would prove viable in the long run.
In February 1986, 960 Radio, Inc., reached an agreement to sell KJSN to Lost River Broadcasting, Inc. The deal was approved by the FCC on March 25, 1986, but the transaction was never consummated and control of KLAD remained with 960 Radio, Inc. [ 7 ] The station was reassigned the call sign KLAD-FM by the FCC on December 25, 1996 . [ 1 ]
In July 2005, Michaels was let go by the new owners, who had hired Dick Lamb, the former morning host from rival station WWDE-FM, known as "2WD." In the weeks leading up to the Lamb's debut, it was hinted that he would return to the air on The Wave. Lamb recorded a TV commercial saying that he would be the host of a new morning show on The Wave.
