Dichanthelium lanuginosum is a species of rosette grass native to North America. It is most common in the central and eastern United States. It is found in a variety of habitats, mostly in open, dry areas. [1] A variety, D. lanuginosum var. thermale, grows in geothermal areas of Yellowstone National Park, United States.
The grass is moderately shade tolerant, coming close to the shade tolerance of St. Augustine. [4] However, it does not do well in full shade [ 5 ] as compared to Rye and Fescue. An average of at least 3–4 hours of full sun per day is a good measure for healthy growth. [ 6 ]
