In 1994, as a result of a pending move to place a news/talk simulcast on 1450 WASK and WASK Incorporated's newly acquired WIIZ (98.7), K 105 changed call letters to WKOA. The station first achieved its #1 ranking in the fall of 1989 and has consistently ranked #1 since, according to Lafayette's Arbitron ratings.

The station originally debuted with a news/talk format at 107.7 as KPEL-FM in 1992, but by 1997 they switched frequencies to 107.9 and format to classic rock as KRXZ. In 2000 it changed the calls to KRKA and on November 11, 2003 they switched to Rhythmic Top-40. In 2010, it changed the calls to KHXT.
Its studios are located on Bertrand Road in Lafayette, and its transmitter is located in Abbeville, Louisiana. Founded in 1992 with call sign KFTE, the station originally had music formats, including alternative rock from 1997 to 2010. [2] On October 4, 2018, Acadia Broadcast Partners, Inc. flipped KSIG from Oldies as "Kool 1450" to Soft Adult Contemporary as Sunny 95-1 with the sign-on of their new simulcast translator, K236CW, on 95.1 in Crowley, Louisiana which also covers the Lafayette, Louisiana Metro area as well.
