Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Center of Ankara University, TÖMER, was founded in 1984 by Mehmet Hengirmen for the purposes of teaching the Turkish language to foreigners and natives; such language and culture institutions as the British Council, Goethe Institut, Instituto Cervantes and Alliance française acted as models for the constitution of the Center.
The Ankara University Law School was founded in 1925, [6] while the School of Language and History – Geography was established in 1935. [7] In 1943, the Faculty of Science was founded, [ 8 ] followed by the Faculty of Medicine in 1945. [ 9 ]
English language preparation classes have been mandatory for all departments since the 2008–2009 academic year, and additional foreign language courses are offered. Since the 1992–1993 academic year, elective language courses focusing on departmental terminology have been available.
