Laurier is an unincorporated urban community in the Rural Municipality of Ste. Rose, Manitoba, Canada. [2] It is located on Highway 480, 3.2 km (2.0 mi) west of Highway 5, between the community of McCreary to the south and the community of Ste. Rose du Lac to the north. The community is recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada. [1]
The Winnipeg Metro Region is located in the Red River Valley in the southeast portion of the province of Manitoba, and is bounded to the north by the south basin of Lake Winnipeg. [ 6 ] The Region was originally defined in The Capital Region Partnership Act (2006) to include 16 municipalities. [ 12 ]

The RM was incorporated on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Ste. Rose and the Town of Sainte Rose du Lac. [1] It was formed as a requirement of The Municipal Amalgamations Act, which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. Today's Winnipeg is the product of the City of Winnipeg Act of 1972, which incorporated a number of cities, towns, and rural municipalities into a single larger city (previously administered under the Metropolitan Corporation of Greater Winnipeg, since 1960) into an amalgamated unicity.
