The Oratory of St Joseph (Oratorio di Santo Giuseppe) is a series of two 16th-century small chapels or prayer halls located in Via Francesco Barocci #57, in Urbino, Region of the Marche, Italy. History
Father De Smet. Joseph Robidoux settled the area that is now the city of St. Joseph in 1826. The Rev. Pierre-Jean De Smet, SJ was the first priest to visit the area in 1838. He met with Robidoux and expressed his desire to establish a chapel in his settlement. [2]
The Apostolic Nuncio, Cardinal Giacomo Cattani, consecrated the church on 24 June 1874 and also made it the National Shrine of Saint Joseph. The church was occupied by the Redemptorists for many decades until it was looked after by the Syriac Orthodox from 1989 to 2001.
