Methuen High School first opened in 1975. The school was originally designed with the open classroom theory. Since then, a $100 million renovation [3] has been conducted and all classrooms now have walls. Also due in part to the renovation, students now receive iPads which they keep for the entire year. This is known as the 1:1 iPad program.

Searles High School, now Methuen City Hall, is a historic former school building at 41 Pleasant Street in Methuen, Massachusetts, and an excellent example of English Renaissance Revival architecture. It was designed by Henry Vaughan , a favorite of wealthy industrialist Edward Searles , who funded construction of the building in 1904.
The school has a four-day schedule with four classes a day including a lunch block. Each class is an hour and a half long, with three different half-hour lunch periods throughout the day.
