Mason County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky.As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,120. [1] Its county seat is Maysville. [2] The county was created from Bourbon County, Virginia in 1788 and named for George Mason, a Virginia delegate to the U.S. Constitutional Convention known as the "Father of the Bill of Rights".

The Maysville Micropolitan Statistical Area (μSA), as defined by the United States Census Bureau, is coterminous with Mason County, Kentucky, whose county seat and largest city is Maysville. As of the 2010 census , the population of Mason County and the current μSA was 17,490, and 2014 Census Bureau estimates place the population at 17,166.
