The former Live Oak County Jail is located in Oakville in the U.S. state of Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Built in 1887 by Diebold Lock and Safe Company, [2] the native sandstone structure was the county jail until 1919. The structure is currently in private ownership.
In 1857, a courthouse was built at the previous county seat of Oakville, Texas. [1] The first courthouse at the county seat of George West was built in 1888. [1] The current courthouse in George West was designed by architect Alfred Giles in 1919 in the Classical revival style. This is the last courthouse Giles designed. [2]

George West is a city in Live Oak County, Texas, United States, and named for cattle rancher George Washington West. The population was 2,171 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] It is the county seat of Live Oak County. [ 5 ]
The oldest continuous site still inhabited by a county courthouse is in Liberty County, where its courthouse has stood—although rebuilt—since 1831.
