The Stoughton Main Street Commercial Historic District is a collection of 36 surviving historic business structures in the old downtown of Stoughton, Wisconsin, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The East Side Historic District is a historic neighborhood of Stoughton, Wisconsin of stylish homes built mostly from 1890 to 1915. It was added to the State Register of Historic Places in 1996 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in the following year.
Stoughton was founded in 1847 by Luke Stoughton, an Englishman from Vermont. Many Norwegian immigrants settled in the town from 1865 through the early 1900s. [9] Stoughton claims to be the birthplace of the "coffee break", and hosts a small yearly parade to celebrate the distinction. [10]

The building was designed by Walter Atherton and given to the town by Lucius Clapp, a local schoolteacher and businessman. [2] It now houses the Stoughton Historical Society. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
