A 1909 school planning guide from New Mexico suggests a school room be no bigger than 24 by 30 feet (7.3 m × 9.1 m) which would seat up to 40 students, as "a teacher having charge of more than this number cannot do satisfactory work - especially in a rural school".
The Preston Hedges Trust, which runs the school, said it hoped to complete the new permanent building in time for September 2026, subject to planning permission.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. [1]
