U.S. Route 30 (US 30) is an east–west arterial surface road in northern Illinois. It runs from across the Mississippi River from Clinton, Iowa , to Lynwood at the Indiana state line. This is a distance of 153.79 miles (247.50 km).
Illinois's state route numbers originated in 1918 as State Bond Issues 1 through 46, used to finance the new roads. The numbers of the bond issues were then used to mark the highway routes along the way. Another series of bond issues were authorized in 1924 (47–185) and again were used to mark the roads they paid for.

U.S. Route 30 or U.S. Highway 30 (US 30) is an east–west main route of the United States Numbered Highway System, with the highway traveling across the Northern U.S. With a length of 3,112 miles (5,008 km), it is the third-longest U.S. Highway, after US 20 and US 6 .
The main feeder routes included Illinois Route 1 at Chicago Heights, Illinois Route 4 (later U.S. Route 66) at Joliet, and Illinois Route 38 at Geneva. The Lincoln Highway entered Illinois on U.S. Route 30, which it followed to Aurora where it became Illinois Route 31, which it followed to Illinois Route 38 at Geneva where it turned west to Dixon.
U.S. Route 30 Alternate (US 30 Alt.) was an alternate route of US 30 after US 330 was decommissioned in 1942. It traveled from Sterling through Chicago to Lynwood near the Indiana state line. By the early 1970s, the alternate route was removed and partly replaced by Illinois Route 38.
