She then taught at Burlington School for Girls, London before taking a position as headmistress of King's Norton Grammar School, Birmingham in 1939. Rose Stern (17 November 1869 – October 1953) was a teacher from Birmingham, England.She was science mistress at North London Collegiate School for Ladies. [1] While a student at Mason College, she was the first woman student to become a member of the Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain & Ireland (later the Royal Institute of Chemistry).

[3] She modelled the school after Frances Buss's North London Collegiate School where she and her sister had taught. [4] She also adopted the motto, "We work in hope" to apply to the new girls school.
