Chinese character external structure is on how the writing units are combined level by level into a complete character. There are three levels of structural units of Chinese characters: strokes, components, and whole characters. [3] For example, character 字 (character) is composed of two components, each of which is composed of three stokes:
The order of strokes in a character, i.e., the order in which strokes are written to form a Chinese character, for example, the stroke order of character 千 is "㇓㇐㇑". Because the direction of strokes is relatively simple, people generally refer to the latter meaning when talking about stroke order. [8]
A compound stroke (also called a complex stroke) is produced when two or more basic strokes are combined in a single stroke written without lifting the writing instrument from the writing surface. The character 永 ( pinyin : yǒng ) "eternity", described in more detail in § Eight Principles of Yong , demonstrates one of these compound strokes.
Types of writing. Handwriting, a person's particular style of writing by pen or a pencil; Hand (handwriting), in paleography, refers to a distinct generic style of penmanship; Block letters – also called printing, is the use of the simple letters children are taught to write when first learning
The condition for a single stroke to be a component is: occupies a relatively independent location usually occupied by a multiple-stroke component in a character. For example: the top stroke 一 in character 元, the bottom 一 in 旦, the left 丨 in 旧, the right ㇟ in 礼, the central ㇔ in 勺, and the outer ㇆ in 司.
Stroke forms refer to the shapes of strokes. The stroke forms of a standard Chinese character set can be classified into a table, for instance, the Unicode CJK strokes list has 36 types of strokes: [44] Stroke order is the order in which strokes are written to form a Chinese character. For example, the stroke order of 千 is ㇓,㇐,㇑. [45]
Writing systems are used to record human language, and may be classified according to certain common features.. The usual name of the script is given first; the name of the languages in which the script is written follows (in brackets), particularly in the case where the language name differs from the script name.
In this order, Chinese characters are sorted by their stroke count ascendingly. A character with less strokes is put before those of more strokes. [6] For example, the different characters in "漢字筆劃, 汉字笔画 " (Chinese character strokes) are sorted into "汉(5)字(6)画(8)笔(10)[筆(12)畫(12)]漢(14)", where stroke counts are put in brackets.
