Figure 6 - Adjustable-throat venturi scrubber with movable plate. Venturi scrubbers can be used for removing gaseous pollutants; however, they are not used when removal of gaseous pollutants is the only concern. The high inlet gas velocities in a venturi scrubber result in a very short contact time between the liquid and gas phases.
A wet scrubber, or venturi scrubber, is similar to a cyclone but it has an orifice unit that sprays water into the vortex in the cyclone section, collecting all of the dust in a slurry system. The water media can be recirculated and reused to continue to filter the air. Eventually the solids must be removed from the water stream and disposed of.
Rotary dryers and asphalt aggregate dryers most commonly use dry gas cleaning unit operations. Cyclones are used to capture large particulates and reduce the particulate load to the baghouse. Baghouses are used as the final particulate control device. Thermal screw systems typically use a venturi scrubber as the primary particulate control.
The higher the pressure drop in the venturi, the smaller the droplets and the higher the surface area. The penalty is in power consumption. For simultaneous removal of SO 2 and fly ash, venturi scrubbers can be used. In fact, many of the industrial sodium-based throwaway systems are venturi scrubbers originally designed to remove particulate ...
Scrubber systems (e.g. chemical scrubbers, gas scrubbers) are a diverse group of air pollution control devices that can be used to remove some particulates and/or gases from industrial exhaust streams. An early application of a carbon dioxide scrubber was in the submarine the Ictíneo I, in 1859; a role for which they continue to be used today ...
Venturi scrubbers are used to clean flue gas emissions; Injectors (also called ejectors) are used to add chlorine gas to water treatment chlorination systems; Steam injectors use the Venturi effect and the latent heat of evaporation to deliver feed water to a steam locomotive boiler. Sandblasting nozzles accelerate and air and media mixture
