Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting is a magazine and television program focusing on the art and technique of piecing and quilting quilts. The show was hosted by Liz Porter (Katie Porter’s mother) and Marianne Fons. Both have retired and occasionally make guest appearances on the show.
Evidence of patchwork—piecing small pieces of fabric together to create a larger piece and quilting layers of textile fabrics together—has been found throughout history. Patchwork was used by ancient Egyptians for their clothes, wall decorations, draperies and furniture, [ 1 ] with oldest depictions from 5,500 years ago (3,400 BCE). [ 2 ]

Reverse appliqué involves cutting the ground fabric, and placing another fabric beneath the opening. The raw, cut edges are folded under, and sewn onto the smaller piece of fabric below, creating a new design. Additional design options are provided by quilting techniques that alter the texture of the quilt.
Georgia Bonesteel is a quilting judge, author and host of the show. She has been the president of the International Quilt Association, which is involved in the history and art of quilting worldwide. [6] Bonesteel is credited with having invented lap quilting while teaching a class at Blue Ridge Community College in North Carolina. [2]
