Morningside is an incorporated town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. [3] Per the 2020 census , the population was 1,240. [ 4 ] The town developed with the establishment of nearby Andrews Air Force Base and the federal Census Bureau .
Suitland Road provides access to the center of Morningside and the southbound direction of the Beltway, which parallels MD 337 along the southern edge of Morningside. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] MD 337 meets the southern end of Forestville Road at an intersection that includes a ramp to northbound I-95/I-495.
Maryland Route 218 (MD 218) is a state highway located in Prince George's County in the U.S. state of Maryland.Known as Suitland Road, the highway runs 1.64 miles (2.64 km) from near Southern Avenue at the District of Columbia boundary east to MD 458 in Suitland.
Within the northeastern section of these boundaries lies the township of Morningside, MD and a small portion of another unincorporated area known as Forestville, MD. [23] According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Suitland has a total area of 4.2 square miles (11.0 km 2), a 25% reduction from the 2.2 square miles (5.6 km 2) used in previous years. [24]
MD 458 was constructed as a concrete road in two sections—from MD 5 (now MD 414) in Silver Hill to MD 218 in Suitland, and from MD 218 to MD 4 (now Marlboro Pike) in District Heights—between 1930 and 1933. [4] [5] The whole highway was widened with the addition of a pair of 3.5-foot-wide (1.1 m) bituminous shoulders between 1940 and 1942. [6]
