Branford Marsalis (born August 26, 1960) is an American saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. While primarily known for his work in jazz as the leader of the Branford Marsalis Quartet, he also performs frequently as a soloist with classical ensembles and has led the group Buckshot LeFonque. From 1992 to 1995 he led the Tonight Show Band.
Branford Marsalis became musical director, and a smaller band was formed. Marsalis was succeeded in 1995 by Kevin Eubanks. In June 2009, Conan O'Brien became the host, and Max Weinberg replaced Kevin Eubanks as bandleader, with the house band from Late Night with Conan O'Brien forming Max Weinberg and The Tonight Show Band.
The band was active between 1992 and 2010, first as Branford Marsalis and the Tonight Show Band until 1995, when Kevin Eubanks took over The Tonight Show Band for the departing Marsalis. Eubanks had been a member of Marsalis's band since Leno's debut in 1992.
