Leaving the nest is the act of moving out of the housing provided by one's parents or guardians, often considered as part of the transition from adolescence to adulthood. The word "nest" is a metaphor for the home in which one was raised. There are causes and effects that are associated with leaving the nest, and differences in livelihood.
Since young adults moving out from their families' house is generally a normal and healthy event [disputed – discuss], the symptoms of empty nest syndrome often go unrecognized. This can result in depression and a loss of purpose for parents, [ 2 ] since the departure of their children from "the nest " leads to adjustments in parents' lives.
Young adults may not have many physical assets to protect yet, but their future earning potential, retirement plans and 401(k)s can be in jeopardy without suitable types of insurance.
