The lake is wholly within Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma's largest state park, containing over 12,500 acres (51 km 2) of relative wilderness. A state-operated lodge and resort is located on the west shore that serves many visitors to the lake, and serves as a base for numerous cabin and campground facilities near the lake.
Many lakes are also located throughout the region, often shaped by the irregular topography of the underlying Arbuckle range. Larger manmade lakes include Lake Texoma, with over 89,000 acres (360 km 2), and Lake Murray, a 5,700-acre (23 km 2) lake impounded about 10 miles (20 km) south of Ardmore.

The Saluda Dam [1] or Saluda River Dam, [2] officially the Dreher Shoals Dam, [1] [3] commonly referred to as the Lake Murray Dam, [4] [5] is an earthen embankment dam located approximately 10 miles (15 km) west of Columbia, South Carolina on the Saluda River.
