Chicago Vocational High School (also known as Chicago Vocational Career Academy and locally known as CVCA or CVS) is a public four-year vocational high school located in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Opened in 1941, the school is operated by the Chicago Public Schools district.
Stony Island Avenue is a major street on South Side of the city of Chicago, designated 1600 East in Chicago's street numbering system. It runs from 56th Street south to the Calumet River. Stony Island Avenue continues sporadically south of the Calumet in the southern suburbs, running alongside the Bishop Ford Freeway, sometimes as a frontage road.
In 1870, the Calumet and Chicago Canal Dock Company purchased the Stony Island Ridge. [2] A railroad was built in 1881 along the western border of Calumet Heights leading to the development of the neighborhood. [3] The area became part of the Village of Hyde Park in 1889. Shortly thereafter, Hyde Park Township was annexed by Chicago. [2]

Stony Island station is the first electrified commuter rail station on the South Chicago Branch of the Metra Electric Line, on 71st Street west of the intersection with Stony Island Avenue, 9.10 miles (14.65 km) from the northern terminus at Randolph Street Station. [2] In Metra's fare-based system, Stony Island is in zone 2.
