Panacea is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Wakulla County, Florida, United States. [3] The population was 735 at the 2020 census, down from 816 at the 2010 census. [4] It is part of the Tallahassee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The mule drawn and wooden railed Panacea Team brought tourists from Sopchoppy.
Mashes Sands is a beach front in Wakulla County, Florida, United States. Mashes Sands is located 6 miles south-southeast of Panacea at the terminus of Mashes Sands Road (County Road 372). The beach overlooks the Gulf of Mexico from a small peninsula bordered by Ochlockonee Bay on the west and the greater Apalachee Bay to the east.
Otherwise, once you get past the initial odor, the water is quite tasty. Mostly a retirement community, Panacea is a quiet and tranquil place, surrounded by National Forest preserves. A number of good seafood restaurants are found in the area due to the proximity of various fishing ports. Recreation is hunting, fishing and swimming.
The present location in Panacea, Florida, was purchased in 1964. In 1971 Rudloe married marine biologist Anne Eidemiller; Anne Rudloe founded the Panacea Institute of Marine Science in 1980. [2] In 1980 this became a registered non-profit as Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratories, Inc., with Jack and Anne Rudloe as cofounders. [3]
