Southwick Beach State Park is a New York State park that lies along an unusual stretch of sandy beach on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. The park is 464 acres (188 ha) in size with a 3,500 foot (1,100 m) length of beach, and is visited annually by about 100,000 people. [ 1 ]
Park staff maintain portages between all major and even smaller lakes, and interior campsite reservations can be made through the main Ontario Parks reservation system. There are also three areas of back-country hiking trails, with sub-loops ranging from 6 to 88 kilometres (3.7 to 54.7 mi) long.
The park includes 274 campsites, as well as a campground store. Despite its name, swimming is not allowed at the park. [1] The park installed the 18-hole "Shore Winds Disc Golf Course" in 2009, [1] which starts near the back of the park and includes several holes playing along the Lake Ontario shoreline. The park may be accessed from Route 18.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park was established in 1968 by Ontario Parks. It is a recreation-class provincial park created to help preserve the fragile beach dune ecology. There are 325 campsites, including 160 with electricity. There are three comfort stations. Yurt camping is available in the park. Group camping sites are also available.
The Ontario Parks system began in 1893 with the creation of Algonquin Park, originally designed to protect loggers' interests from settlement. The management and creation of provincial parks came under the Department of Lands and Forests in 1954 and led to a period of accelerated park creation: a ninefold increase in the number of parks over the next six years.
The initial regulations governing Rondeau prohibited settlement, grazing, and most logging, and allowed for camping under permit and a renewable lease policy for cottages. [3] In a general sense, all these regulations remain in place today. Rondeau is one of only two Ontario provincial parks with private cottage leases on publicly owned land.

The site was transferred to New York State's ownership in 1938, and was renamed Hamlin Beach State Park. After World War II, the Lake Ontario State Parkway was extended through the park, increasing accessibility. [3] The parking lot was expanded to handle the increase in visitors, and the campgrounds were built.
