Ava is the only incorporated city in Douglas County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,894 at the 2020 census. [4] Ava is the county seat of Douglas County. [5] The city was founded in 1871. It was renamed Ava in 1881, the town's original name having been "Militia Springs."

Ava Ranger Station Historic District is a national historic district located near Ava, Douglas County, Missouri.The district encompasses five frame and limestone buildings constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936.
It is located on Missouri Route 14, approximately 15.5 miles (24.9 km) northwest of Ava and 8.5 miles (13.7 km) southwest of Seymour.
