Susan Hatch Davis is an American politician from Vermont. A member of the Vermont Progressive Party, she was a candidate in the 2022 Vermont gubernatorial election. [1] before withdrawing from the race. The Progressive Party ended up endorsing Brenda Siegel, a Democrat who would ultimately lose the race to Phil Scott
Deane Davis was born in East Barre, Vermont, on November 7, 1900, the son of Earle Russell Davis and Lois Salome Hillery. [1] Earle Davis was an attorney who served as state's attorney for Washington County and county probate judge. [2] The younger Davis attended the schools of Barre, and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1918. [2]
In 1850 Davis prosecuted William Warburton, alias "Bristol Bill" for counterfeiting. Upon hearing the guilty verdict Bristol Bill stabbed Davis in the back of the neck. Davis recovered, and the next day Bristol Bill was sentenced to 10 years in prison. [7] He served in the Vermont Senate from 1858 to 1860 and was Senate President in 1859. [8]
