Hanover is a town in Hanover Township, Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. Located along the Ohio River , the town's population was 3,546 at the 2010 census. Hanover is the home of Hanover College , a small Presbyterian liberal arts college.
PA 116 was designated onto its current alignment between PA 16 in Carroll Valley and US 30 in West Manchester Township in 1928 as a paved road. In the 1930s and 1950s, the highway was widened in the Hanover area. The route was moved to a one-way pair in downtown Hanover along with PA 194 by 1965.

PA 56/PA 403 turns northwest onto Broad Street and continues past more businesses with some homes. PA 56 splits to the west and PA 403 narrows to two lanes, curving to the north. The route turns east onto Laurel Avenue and crosses the Conemaugh River and a Lehigh Valley Rail Management railroad line, quickly turning north onto Cooper Avenue.
