Two new districts were added afterwards. On 1 January 2012, the Chhattisgarh government announced 9 new districts, for a total of 27. On 15 August 2019, the Chhattisgarh chief minister announced the creation of Chhattisgarh's 28th district, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, which would be carved out of Bilaspur district. [6]
